Pakistan Cricket

the Partition of India in 1947, and the establishment of the separate nation state of Pakistan, cricket in the country developed steadily and Pakistan was given Test Match status at a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference at Lord's Cricket Ground on 28 July 1952.

When the cricket team of West Indies was due to undertake a tour of India in the winter of 1948 and all of a sudden, few members of the Lahore Gymkhana , thought of inviting the mighty team to Pakistan for one-off test match. this gave the birth to the idea of forming the board of control for cricket in Pakistan.(BCCP), so that an official invitation could be extended to the West Indies cricket board.

Justice A.R Cornelus who later became the chief Justice of Pakistan was the captain of Lahore gymkhana, with his other fellow cricketers like Mian Muhammad Saeed, Dr. Jahangir Khan, Sheikh Muhammad Nisar, Dr. Dilawar Hussain, QD Butt and AR. Collector invited then Chief Minister Punjab, Khan Iftikhar Hussain, the Khan of Mamdot to form the BCCP Khan Iftikhar Hussain became the first president of Board of Control for cricket in Pakistan (BCCP) also.

Pakistan's first Test match was played in Delhi in October 1952 as part of a five Test series which India won 2-1. Pakistan made their first tour of England in 1954 and drew the series 1-1 after a memorable victory at The Oval in which fast bowler Fazal Mahmood took 12 wickets. Pakistan's first home Test match was in Dacca in East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh ) in January 1955 against India, after which four more Test matches were played in Bahawalpur , Lahore , Peshawar and Karachi (all five matches in the series were drawn).

The team is considered one of the best teams in international cricket, with top rankings in both Test and One-day International matches. Traditionally Pakistani cricket has been filled with players of outrageous talent but limited discipline, making them a team which could play inspirational cricket one day and then perform less than ordinarily another day. Over the years, competitions between India and Pakistan have always been emotionally charged and provide for intriguing contests, as talented teams from both sides of the border elevate their game to new levels to produce high-quality cricket.

Indian Cricket Team

Cricket and Indian Cricket Team players have an iconic status in India. If cricket is a passion then its players drive the passion to new grounds. The Indian cricket team selected by Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India represents the country in all the international circuits.

As per the records Indian Cricket Team made its first official tour in the year 1911 and played English County Cricket. In the year 1926, Indian Cricket team joined Imperial Cricket Council (ICC) today known as International Cricket Council.

Indian Cricket team in its first 50 years had players such as Ranjisinhji, KS Duleepsinhji CK Nayudu, Bhagwat Subramanya Chandrashekhar, Bishan Singh Bedi, Erapalli Prasanna, and Srinivas Venkatraghavan on its roll however it could not make substantial headways against international teams. It was in the 1970s when players such as Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Vishwanathan, Kapil Dev, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Dileep Vengaskar joined the team things changed substantially. This new young lot infused the much-needed vigor in the team. The world was stunned when India lifted the Cricket World Cup in 1983 in England.

Now there was no looking back for the team as it tasted its first roaring success. In the 90s the inclusion of players such as Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly, Javagal Srinath, Anil Kumble, and Rahul Dravid made the Indian Cricket Team one of the most formidable ones. With this team India reached the finals of Cricket World Cup in 2003.

However in 2007 World Cup, the performance of the team was not up to the mark. Despite this setback the Indian cricket team is geared for new challenges with confidence and determination.

Cricket History

The origins of cricket are very vague, and many theories have been put forward suggesting its origins. Extensive studies and research have been conducted to trace its history and they have come out with different versions. However it is commonly accepted that the game originated from a very old leisure activity indulged by shepherds. The shepherds used crook and other farm equipments to hit a ball like deceive which used to be made up of wool or stone.
The first evidence of cricket being played was recorded in the year 1550, by the pupils of Royal Grammar School, Guildford. In the year 1611 it is reported that two young men from Sussex were punished for playing cricket instead of going to the church. The first match is recorded to have been played at Coxheath in Kent in the year 1646.
Earlier cricket used to thrive greatly as a gambling game. People used to place huge amounts of bets in matches and thus the game started to get recognition. Cricket was in fact a major gambling sport towards the end of the 17th century. It is recorded that in the year 1679, a 11-a-side match was played with stakes as high as 50 guineas per side.
During the 18th century cricket survived and thrived due to the huge amounts of money via monetary backing and gambling. The first instance of a match to be played between counties in England is recorded to be on 29th June in the year 1709. This match was played between Surrey and Kent at Dartford Brent.
The 18th century also witnessed the emergence of two types of cricket players. They were known as the retained player and the individual player. Generally the retained player was the servant of the lord and a cricketer as well. On the other hand the individual player was free to play anywhere with his skills. Basically it was something like the player could play anywhere with the amount of skill he possesses.
In the year 1787, the Marylebone Cricket Club also known MCC was created. The MCC has since then gone on to become one of the most prominent bodies in world cricket. Cricket in its initial days were restricted to the aristocratic class of England. Cricket gradually went on to become the national game of England.
The late 18th century was a very crucial phase for the development of the game, both within and outside Britain. The game was spread far and wide mainly due to England’s imperialism. Wherever they went, the game went with them and thus spread outside England. The first official match was held between Canada and United States was held in the year 1844.
In the present times, cricket has its own following of loyal fans. The International Cricket Council, better known as the ICC is the governing body in world cricket. The ICC was founded on the 15th of June in the year 1909. All laws relating to ODIs and Test Cricket are framed and implemented by the ICC.
